Once upon a time, I had a simple idea. The idea was to plant some Christmas trees, let them grow, and sell them. Easy right? Why don't more people do it? Trees grow in the wild all the time. There is nothing to it. Well, ten years later, I have some found that owning a Christmas tree farm is far from simple and easy. It's A LOT of work! Fertilizing, trimming, and mowing are all behind the scenes work that happen for years before a tree is ready to be sold.
I may not have known the hard work I was signing up for, but there was more I didn't know would come from establishing a Christmas tree farm. During last season (our second season) I felt an overwhelming sense of joy seeing families return from the year before and greeting new customers. I felt honored that they were choosing this farm to be part of their Christmas celebration. I remember the excitement I felt as a child when it came time to choose our Christmas tree. Actually, I am still excited as an adult when it is time to get a tree. Now, providing that same delight and excitement to children and families of all ages is a feeling of joy I never expected to obtain when those trees were planted. Thank goodness for a simple idea!
